In view of the intolerant move of the french government to ban the wearing of veil in the public, a Muslim french businessman has offered to pay the fines of any woman caught wearing the veil. The ban moved a step further towards becoming a law when the National Assembly of France along with with members of the Lower House voted overwhelmingly to introduce the ban.

If this law will be implemented, a woman wearing the veil in public is supposed to be fined €150. In September the proposal will be forwarded to the french senators in the Upper house, and if they ratify the ban, it will become a law by the spring of 2011.

France has more than 5 million Muslim citizens, who are being deeply antagonized by this move. Rachid Nekkaz, a successful property developer has pledged one million euros from his pocket to pay the fines of any woman fined for wearing the veil. Nekkaz, has said that he along with the other Muslim french citizens, feel that this is a persecution of his religion and a direct attack on the liberty and freedom of individuals.

Rachid Nekkaz, that the money he is committing is as such for the protection the liberty of women in France and that one million euros is a small price for something as great as liberty. Describing the proposed law as ‘Unconstitutional’, he has asked other french people to join him in fighting the law from being enforced.
The Muslims consider the covering of the woman or the hijab is a command of Allah, mentioned in the Quran for the protection of the modesty of the women and not to degrade them.

The veil is worn by Muslim women as a personal choice, not being forced on any individual. Most Muslim women even feel that wearing the veil liberates them from the dirty gazes of pervert strangers.

Many social activists are saying that putting a ban on the veil is a direct insult to the fundamental right of a women to wear to choose her dressing and also to practice her religion. A ban not only going against the constitution of France but also making a mockery of the ‘Freedom of Expession’ which the french have always claimed to safeguard.
The British have already given a statement that such a ban would be very undemocratic.

With France being one of the oldest democracy in the world, this act by the french government is being called by many as a religiously intolerant stance and against the very basis of democracy, that being liberty and equal freedom for all.

The last time Muslims stood united in this world against all kinds of atrocities was during the time of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and in the time of tabayeen .After then Muslim unity has become just a joke. At least now it is time for Muslims to wake up and understand the mask being shrouded by these so-called-democratic countries upon our fundamentals and shariah. I wonder where all the other Muslims in France have hid themselves when the french government was busy scheming plans to demolish shariah.Hope they might get inspired by Br.Rachid Nekkaz

Unbaised, sure… firstly the amount of facts wrong here is horrific-firstly hijabs are very different from veils, secondly other religious wear (from other religion) are banned as well. Also it is not a violation of liberty it is needed for safety and cultural preservation. Firstly, it leads to racism (horrible I know but VERY true), this causes violence. Secondly vision is impaired leading to problems. Thirdly it aids criminals because they can simply wear one and have a legal mask! Also, how is it a violation of rights when other clothes are limited (have fun walking around naked, or waltzing with ski-masks into a store!!!! Know for the slightly more offensive part- when one moves to a country-esp. a proud country with a great history- one should expect to melt into said culture-that said one can keep their religion-just adhering to cultural norms. I think it should be illegal what this guy is doing because it is helping people break the law-he should be arrested! Now to the actual article and its objectivity- I DONT want it to express only my very differnet view but rather both views without emotional and opinionated words (ie. “this act by the french government is being called by many as a religiously intolerant ” who is this many and why are the reasons not mentioned or the MANY supporters?, or another example “In view of the intolerant move of the french government to ban the wearing of veil in the public” really intolerant-that is the writers opinion and should be left out entirely, it was infact strongly considered and deemed needed, not intolerant). The journalist should feel ashamed of him/herself (yup, I dont know their name even because the dont have the pride or dignity to give it) and stop writing until they go to school and learn how to!
