Kyrgyz Voters Support Democratic Constitution

Kyrgyzstan witnessed an overwhelming response from the voters that propelled its parliamentary democracy as stated in the results of the parliamentary elections that were held on Sunday. According to the results around ninety percent of the voters supported the transition.

However the final results are expected to be released by Monday as stated by the Countries Election Commission. Surprisingly the Voter turnout was very high reaching the sixty nine percent marks as there was a large turnover of votes at the ballot boxes.

Roza Otunbayeva described the referendum a success as it marks a historic event   for the country that marks the transition of the authoritarian, nepotism management. Thus the event would lead to the birth of a new constitution in the history of Kyrgyzstan. The new parliamentary republic government keeps the sovereignty and statehood and hope.

In spite of sending out leaflets urging the civilians to maintain peace and order while voting, the southern region saw violence and intense fighting and the death toll may have reached the 200 mark. According to the observers the violence was between the two ethnic groups of the Uzbeks and the armed Kyrgyz fighters.

The Uzbeks make a major part, almost fourteen percent of the 5.3 million Kyrgyz population.
