Bangalore: The towns of Hassan and Shimoga in Karnataka showed violence when a local Kannada newspaper published an article written by the controversial writer Tasleema Nasreen.

The article which targeted against Muslim women wearing burqa as a obstacle in their freedom arose anger amongst Muslim. The article written by Tasleema titled “Pardah Hain Pardah” states that the Prophet Muhammad didn’t believe in women wearing burqa and it interferes with women freedom.

The protest which broke out in Shimoga resulted in the death of two people and also lead to damage of several vehicles and shops. The condition of Shimoga, Hassan and Banglore are getting worst, with the government imposing prohibitory orders to control law and order in these areas.

The Chief minister of Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa said“I appeal to my Muslim brothers for peace, an FIR has been filed against the newspaper”.

The situation in Shimoga and Hassan was still tense and several protesters have been arrested in different places in different incidents.

Muslim leaders have appealed to the people to maintain peace. One of the Muslim leader Maulvi Riazul Rahman said “I request people to remain calm.”

The question asked by many is why did Tasleema’s article about burqa got published in the newspaper now, just after efforts made by European countries to remove the concept of Hijab?
