Moulana Aqil, renowned Islamic Scholar of India, passes away at 82

The Renowned Islamic Scholar Moulana Hameeduddin Aqil Hussami passed away in the early hours of Friday. He was suffering from illness and was 82 years old.

Popularly known as Moulana Aqil, he passed out at 4: 15 am on Friday morning at his family home. He was suffering from lung illness for many days and was taken to hospital on Thursday when he complained uneasiness. Looking at his condition, doctors asked him to be taken back to home where he passed away. He has a son and a daughter.

The funeral prayer was offered in Hyderabad at Mecca Masjid after the Friday prayers. He was put to rest at Hussamia Chaman, which is his ancestral graveyard in the Old city.

Moulana Aqil was a renowned scholar of Indian Subcontinent, a powerful Orator, a social worker and social advisor. He was also the member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board. He started working on Muslim community at a time when there were not many in the field. He also founded Jamia Islamia Darul Uloom, a well-known place of Islamic learning in the city.

He also actively took part in speaking against the violence committed against Innocent Muslim youth. He also headed the United Muslim forum which is an apex body of Muslim political and religious organizations formed in 2002 to fight the atrocities committed on Muslim youth of India.

He was also the chairman of Deeni Madaris Federation, which was essentially formed to fight the attempts made to brand Islamic Madarasas as havens of terrorism.
