Investigators were on Sunday gathering clues to unleash the identity of terror group behind the Pune bomb blast and the role of Indian Mujahideen(IM) is not being ruled out, for Indian Government renewed the demand for access to US sponsored terror suspect David Headley. Meanwhile, Sources also confirm that officials think its too early to point fingers at without proof.
No arrests have been reported yet in the attack in which officials said the deadly RDX and Ammonium Nitrate were assumed to be used. 2 foreigners—an Italian woman and an Iranian male student–were among the 9 persons killed in the first strike since 26/11.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reviewed the situation with Home Minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi following the bomb blast at German Bakery yesterday and ordered the Centre and the Maharashtra government to take coordinated and effective action to quickly investigate the matter. Chidambaram said out any intelligence failure in the attack.
When asked whether IM was involved, “We can’t say anything right now,” Pune Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said. Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba is alleged to previously help IM carry out some of the terror attacks in India.
Chidambaram visited the site of the attack after which he sent away any “intelligence failure” and said the terrorists have hit a “soft target”. Maharasahtra’s Anti Terrorism Squad formed four investigating teams to probe the Pune blast.
He held a high-level meeting in Delhi to review the security situation following which a red alert was declared in cities like Kanpur, Indore and the national capital.
The meeting also analyzed the speech made by Hafiz Abdur Rahman Makki, leader of terror outfit amalgam Jamaat-ul-Dawah, at the Kashmir Solidarity Day conference held in Pakistan -occupied-Kashmir on February 4 in which he had mentioned about attacks on Indian cities including Pune.
P. Chidambaram said India should be surely allowed to have a detailed interrogation of Headley, a Pakistani-American who is in US custody for suspected involvement in 26/11.
But on the other side of the coin, some of the critical analysts like Mr. Amresh Mishra of Times of India, who termed the 26/11 as an attempt to divert attention from saffron terrorism. He lamented that with Hemant’s death have got buried many secrets. Was the attack then meant to scuttle investigations that were exposing the ugly face of Sang Parivar which, after exploding bombs at Malegoan and Samjota Express, used to get away throwing dirt on SIMI, Indian Mujahedeen, HUJI and Lashkar.
Some analysts in India do not rule out the possibility of involvement of Bhonsala Military School or Abhinav Bharat, which have recently come under scanning lenses of ATS.
Some analysts also ruled out that occurrences of such terror attacks in India have had happened when Media fully focused on the terror involvement of Hindu organizations like Sang Parivar and Saffron Brigades, since recently Shiv Sainiks were under the focus of Media for their objections to release Bollywood movie “My Name is Khan”, and moreover for their dirty remarks against North Indians.
No judgement can be made away as of now; for the investigations are still on the cards.
