According to World health organization (WHO) approximately one third of the deaths due to cancer is because of less awareness and lack of health education among the people living in developing countries.
These could be prevented through proper educational programs and early detection of the cancer. Most of the developing countries have high cancer deaths and to deal with them preventable and educational Programs related to cancer and its symptoms should be encouraged.
Cancer which is also referred as silent pandemic is making diagnosis and treatment difficult for the different health services who are already dealing with other complicated diseases. More people are killed each year by cancer when compared to other diseases like HIV, AIDS, tuberculosis or malaria etc.
According to World cancer Day organizers, more than forty percent of the people detected with cancer can be prevented from these diseases just by changing lifestyles and protecting themselves from infections.
It has been estimated that the number of deaths due to cancer globally will increase up to 43 percent by 2030, and it will be influenced by global aging and increased population. With increase aging the cellular repair mechanism slows down and the incidence of cancer increase with increased age.
A survey was conducted last year, and it was estimated that 7.5 million people have died last year and majority of the deaths have occurred in poor countries. And the numbers of deaths are expected to be increase twice in the next ten years, but only five percent of resources and medications are given to the developing countries.
Ms.Ruth Oniango who is the founder of the Rural Outreach program, in Nairobi, Kenya told the “We are aware that many people die of cancer very quietly and even when they are diagnosed it is too late, often they cannot afford to travel to treatment centers.
“We just need our government to step up and have advocacy across the nation and realise that if we do not do anything about it right now, we will end up with a crisis on our hands which we will be unable to manage,” she said.
