Brett Lee to retire from Test Cricket

Australian pacer Brett Lee has announced his retirement from Test cricket to focus on the shorter formats of the game.

He has decided to pay more attention towards onedayers and T20s as he aims to play for Australia in te 2011 World Cup.

He holds the record for the second fastest ball ever bowled (160.8 km/h) by any bowler. Since his debut in Tests in 1999, Lee has taken 310 wickets from 76 matches.

In his career, Lee has endured many surgeries for the various injuries he suffered, but he describes the present elbow injury as the most painful of his career.

Brett Lee is a winner of the Allan Border medal in 2008 for being the best Australian cricketer of the year. He has also been the Wisden Cricketer of the year 2006. A very popular personality in both India and Australia, Lee also plays for the Kings XI Punjab in the cash rich Indian Premier League.

Earlier, according to a report in the ‘Sydney Morning Herald, Lee, discussed the matter with Flintoff and the star English all-rounder convinced him to give up the five-day format for a longer stint in ODIs and Twenty20s, who has himself given up the longer format to go freelance.

At present the star pacer is suffering from an elbow injury which has kept him out of action for quite some time.
