In a fresh incidence of sectarian violences in Nigeria between Christians and Muslims that have taken thousands of lives in last decade, 326 people were killed last week.According to state police,  the clashes were begun  after Muslim youths set a Christian church ablaze, but Muslim leaders denied it  saying that it began with an argument over the rebuilding of a Muslim home in a predominantly Christian area that was destroyed in the riots of November 2008.

Plateau State Police Commissioner Ikechukwu Aduba told reporters that around 300 people are arrested in the town of Jos in connection with the riots. He also promised that those arrested would be brought in front of the law. Political party leaders in Jos had earlier complained that those involved in previous riots were never punished and were allowed to walk out freely.

Aduba told that there will be more arrests as more suspects are under scanner. This include those involved in the wiping out of a small village on the southern outskirts of Jos. Officials there discovered that the bodies were shoved into communal wells and sewer dumps by the rioters. They also reported to have seen bodies in an outside village bush, with wounds of  gunshot and machete.
