The mystery surrounding the death of Hemant Karkare, the the chief of the Anti Terrorism Sqaud (ATS) of Mumbai never seems to cease. The latest twist in the story is that the sweeper of JJ Hospital, Dinesh Lalji Gataar told the court that he had thrown away the Bullet proof jacket of the cop into the hospital garbage from where it was sent to dumping ground in Deonar.
The sweeper has been reported to have said that while he was cleaning the Operation Theater on the morning following the day of the Mumbai attack, he came across a pile of waste including a bullet proof vest that might have been that of Karkare.
This is the same vest that Karkare’s wife claims that Karkare never left the house without.
The question that arises here is that how was it possible that such an important evidence as the Vest was not recovered by the police and why did Gattar remain silent on this issue for more than a year. And how did Karkare die in the shooting if he was still wearing the vest .
Hemant Karkare’s death and the official story behind it is something that is still continuing to raise a lot of uneasy questions that are not being answered by the Government or the Police.
