A trust running actively in Kolkata by the name Pratichi India trust has done a survey recently. According to their survey, 78 percent of the primary school going children belonging to rural areas are forced to take private tuition. Most of these students belong to underprevilage families where there parents who are illiterate cannot help them with their home work and are forced to keep private tutors.
Mr. Amartya Sen who is a Nobel price laureate, says “There should be no rule for homework to complete basic education on the part of school children at their elementary level when they are very young,”. He also happens to be the Founder of Pratichi Trust in India. Mr. Amartya says that the school authorities expect students to complete a part of school circulum, at home in the form of homework as a result of this students of the weaker section of the society are facing more problems than before.
These findings also remind us about the several loop holes in the education system in rural areas.
