Police clear the crowd gathered for protest over the death of Saud

Five police officers of Jordan have been accused of killing a man in the custody. They are going to be on a trial due to the death of man who died because of injuries suffered while he was in custody.

Minister of state for information affairs and communication, Nabil Sharif said that the investigation has been concluded and now that the case will be moved up to the courts.

20 year old Saddam Saud died on Sunday after being taken into police custody last month over a quarrel in the commercial center in the capital Amman. Saud’s relatives say that when he was kept in custody he was tortured by the police which caused his death.

On Monday Saud was buried by his relatives and supporters after a huge protest in the street in the eastern region of the capital. In the protest which later resulted in clashes at least 6 policemen were injured, cars were torched and the shops were damaged. The police officials said that they had to use tear gas to break up the crowd which was damaging the property.

Saud was receiving treatment for his injuries since a month and was declared “clinically dead” on Sunday.
