UN building in Kabul attacked

Explosions and heavy gun fire took place on Wednesday in Kabul Afghanistan as the Afghan forces fought against group of Taliban’s militants. The attackers took the UN guest house from inside and heavy firing was started. Officials and witnesses reported that UN guest house had about 10 UN foreign employees which was under heavy attack.

UN’s reaction is yet to be received. The desultory firing took place with the heavy noises of machine guns and what it is believed to be explosions took place and thick black smoke could be seen rising from the scene and the UN guest house in Kabul.

A policeman at the scene, Waheed Sadiqi said “There are five or six terrorists inside the building, the attack is inside a UN guest house”.

Reuters reported that an Afghan security personnel said that one of the attackers was killed and nearly 3 policeman were severely wounded. The witnesses said that the streets have been blocked by the police as the gunfire continued. Sirens reverberated in the capital of Afghanistan.

Sources reported that Taliban has claimed responsibility for this attack. Taliban has been taking revenge and staging such attacks as the second round of presidential elections are going to take place in November.

Sources reported that 3 UN staff members have been killed in the indiscriminate firing.

”There are five or six terrorists inside,” said Waheed Siddiqi, a policeman at the scene. ”The attack is inside a UN guest house.”

An Afghan security source told Reuters one militant had been killed and three Afghan police officers were wounded.

A Reuters witness said a number of streets had been cordoned off by the police as the gunfire continued. Sirens reverberated in the capital.

Taliban has claimed responsibility of the attack.

An increasingly resurgent Taliban have vowed to stage attacks ahead of a second-round run-off in Afghanistan’s presidential election on November 7.

Three UN staff members have reportedly been killed in the attack.
