Delhi : An IIT PHD student Pushpam Kumar Sinha of 34 years murdered a teenage girl after attempting to rape her. Police said that he suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder and was a “pervert and maniac”. He was arrested on Sunday for strangling a 19 year old girl at her residence in Munrika in south Delhi.

Sources say that Kumar killed the girl when she “angrily resisted” his advances.

H G S Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police said “He felt that she might inform police and so he strangled her for three minutes. To make it as a case of accident, he put her face on the gas stove and lit it”.

He continued saying “Initially there was no suspicion of foul play in the incident but the postmortem report suggested that she died of strangulation and not due to burns. We zeroed in on Sinha after discreet inquiries”.

Mr.Dhaliwal said that during the investigation at Kumar’s room they came to know that he was a Maniac and suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder. He said “Graffiti s on the walls showed that he was a pervert and maniac. He had a complex. He wrote in his diary that he was not able to make friends with girls. One of the graffiti s read that ‘this is the time to make girl friend. I am finally making someone”.

He added Nauseated that “A very vulgar kind of red graffiti was found on the wall of his room and he wrote many things, during interrogation, he made an alibi where he was and what music he was listening to and all. He also gave a sequence of events, which included that of him playing with the children of neighbors. He had everything planned in his mind”.

The postmortem reports show that the girl was not raped but Kumar confessed to the police that he was afraid of getting arrested by police if the girl was alive. He burned her face, hair and her upper torso after making sure she died.

Kumar got acquainted with the girl during the Diwali festival but the relationship was not intimate. Dhaliwal said “He was living next door and used to greet each other. Nothing more than that. Advances were totally from Kumar’s side”. According to the victims sister Kumar passed lewd comments and showed “a little bit of stalking”.

Dhaliwal continues saying “His diaries and files in laptop suggested that he was ‘very sad’ because he could not marry. He had bought many gifts for girls like watches and teddy bear, there are some records about some kind of academic misconduct also which we are checking. Sinha has a great complex. He was not been able to propose to any girl” Dhaliwal added.

The girl had come to the city a month ago and was staying with her sister who works at restaurant in Connaught Place.
