More Death Sentences over riot in Urumqi city, China

death penaltychina_16102009Six more people have been sentenced to death in a fresh order given by a Chinese court over July’s ethnic riots.Total 12 people were convicted of them 6 were given death penalties while 3 other were given a lifer.

Almost 200 people were killed in the riots according to the government which took place between two communities ethnic Uighur and ethnic Han .It was said that these riots were the worst of outbreaks ever in china in decade.most of them who were killed were ethnic hans.

The Chinese government decision for death sentences were seen only towards the Uighur community.The Chinese government said that these riots were orchestrated by Uighur leaders who are labeled as “terrorists” although the government has no evidence to prove that.

Rebiya Kadeer leader of the World Uighur Congress denied any role in the protests who claimed the she herself was jailed before being released in exile.she said that “sentencing protesters to death would not lead to peace and stability in the region”.
