New Delhi : Rajdhani Express of New Delhi was taken in control for four hours by Maoists in Midnapore district before the security forces on Tuesday evening got it released. The sources said that the passenger’s are safe for now. Union government said that 667 passengers were on the train which was taken in control by the maoists but the passengers are safe for now.
Sources said that around 500 Members of the Moist backed, People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) held the Up 2443A express train by sitting in front of the train and driving out the drivers and, demanded the retraction of joint security forces and release of their arrested leaders. This incident took place near Jhargram station close to the Antapani jungle which is 155 km from Kolkata by train.
police team rushed to the scene and were ambushed by the left wing rebel, which intensified the situation until Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers and state policemen got in action and finally rescued the train and its passengers.
P Chidambaram Home Minister of India announced “The CRPF and the state police have reached the spot and the train has been secured”. The train is now at halt at Banstala station. Sources from the police said that “green signal for the train to chug out of the station was given only after security experts conducted an intense check of the tracks and the train for any explosive devices the Maoist might have planted”.
Chidambaram also informed that no gun fire took place at the spot and he asked media to be certain of what the say. He said “I would like the media to show some restraint. Don’t report rumors. A civilian driver has been injured. There was no exchange of fire. No CRPF person has been injured”.
Bhupinder Singh, State Director General of Police said “My men have reached there. They have entered the train. There is no sign of the Maoists now”.
It all started when some men stood on the tracks and asked them to leave the engine room of the train. The assistant driver of the New Delhi-bound Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express, K Govind Rao said “A group of men stood on the railway tracks and stopped the train. They asked all of us in the driver’s cabin to get down and wait near the engine. They did not beat us up, but asked us not to run the train till they gave the green signal”.
The train is safe for now.
