Dozens of photographs of children mostly infants can be seen on a website created by the Chinese authorities. The authorities said that these photos are of the rescued children who were kidnapped by child traffickers.
The website is an attempt to go up to their families and unite with them and to spread awareness among people about the rampant trafficking.
The website gives short details about the child with his photograph, physical description and the date of rescue. Then a phone number can be seen of the concerned authorities. Most of them appeared to be boys and the youngest was just few months old. Since the campaign began in April many families have been united and many children have been rescued. The campaign also lead to hundreds of arrests in the case but many children are yet to be reunited with their families.
The website gives us details that as many as 60 children are yet to be united with their families. Public security ministry announced that between April and October at least 2,000 children were rescued. The website also has children profiles who have been rescued long time ago but still they are yet to be collected.
Melissa Chan of Al Jazeera reported that in Beijing, the Chinese capital a very aggressive campaign is lead by the authorities in which hundreds of children were being rescued. She said that the rescued children were either too young or can no longer remember their names and other details, which made it difficult to trace their kin.
DNA database is setup by the government to get to the families and hand over the kids after it is authentically known. But even this had to be spread and thus the website was created. Lawyer Zhang Zhiwei said “It’s the first time the ministry has published data about children whose parents couldn’t be found through the national DNA database”.
Males get higher price than females in China thats why the cases of kidnapping are more for the boy. Girls and women are also abducted and are used in flesh trades or as laborers.
To get boy some families even sell their female babies, since the country’s one-child policy limits most families to having one child.
