In Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott, the suicide attack outside the french embassy has left two people injured, officials have reported.
On saturday evening near the wall of the embassy, a young man detonated his explosive belt.
The blast left the two French security employees injured, who were jogging nearby.
Marc Flattot, an embassy official said “Two French nations, security employees at the French embassy, were near the man at the moment of the blast”.
“Both of them are in state of shock and hospitalized, however, they remain unharmed”.
Although many theories has been proposed, the officials say that its too early to predict the target of the attack. There was no damage to either the french foreign ministry or it s embassy.
Its been only three days since Mohamed Ould abdel Aziz, took over the office of president after the elections in former french colony. Mohamed Ould abdel aziz had staged an internationally condemned coup a year ago.
The opponents however rejected the poll result saying it was fraud, last month. However, France said its ready to re-engage with the Saharan country, praising its tough stance against al-Qaeda and other argmed groups operating in the region.
Last month a judge charged three men for the murder of a US aid worker, killed in Nouakchott.
The men were said to be connected to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Mahgreb.
The group claimed responsibility for the murder, saying it was in retaliation for US military operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
In 2008, 12 Mauritanian soldiers patrolling north of the capital were ambushed and shot dead by suspected al-Qaeda fighters.
