Raj Thackeray, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday at Ratnagiri in connection to the Sunday’s attack on North Indian Rail exam candidates by his supporters.
On Sunday, MNS workers attacked 13 railway board examination centers in Suburban Mumbai to protest against the lesser representation to the locals and giving preferance to the North Indians. A case was thus registered against Raj and his workers in the North West police station of Kharwadi.
Raj Thackeray would be produced in Bandra Court in Mumbai on Tuesday. He was on a tour in western Maharashtra and konkan region when he was arrested from Ratnagiri.
Maharashtra Government was under huge pressure to take action against Raj and his activists for thier derogatory remarks against the North Indians.
He made some strong statements and also threatened the government that if he is arrested, the entire Maharashtra would burn and that the government would regrest this later.
Upon his arrest, many vehicles were damaged and burned by unknown miscreants who later led on motorcycles.
