Adding to the series of killings in the communal fights between castes in India for centuries now, another shocking incident took place in Bihar where an upper caste individual shot dead a lower caste individual for crossing the religious boundaries.

Three persons from Dalit community had gone to offer prasad (religious offering) to Durga (Goddess of Hinduism) on saturday night. This was heavily resisted by some people of upper caste which sparked the violence.

Karu Paswan who is a scheduled caste, had wished to offer prasad to Durga. This was not tolerated by the upper caste people since they found it to be crossing lines of caste system.

In the quarrel, an upper caste individual, Ratan Singh, took out his gun and shot three people at point blank, thus leaving them injured. All the three persons were taken to hospital immediately.

On the way, Karu Paswan scumbed to his injuries. Police started hunting down singh who could not be traced. An FIR has been lodged against seven people and a police check post has been setup in the area to avoid any more communal violence.
