The much trouble that began after the murder of Swami Lakhsmanada Saraswati, the senior VHP leader, continued with communal violence claiming about 20 lives and various assaults on churches and Christians across the district of Kandhmal. Earlier, a young woman was burnt alive in what is called the retaliation attack by the Hindu Terrorists.

There was curfew and shoot at sight orders in the district after 20 people were killed. In bhubaneshwar, Home minister Sri Prakash Jaisawal terminated his visit to the area when he heard of the increased violence. He rather had a press conference and spoke to the reporters. He said that situation is out of control in the district.

Hindu dominated area of Phulbani erupted with a feeling of rage and helplessness. This district of Kandhmal has a history of violence which dates back 20 years. Dalits and the Tribal Kandhs have been demanding for a scheduled Tribe status, as most of them are christians. GP Rath, the secretary of VHP, Orissa said that though state government says that Swami was killed by the Maoists, this is not true.

In this riot situation, the government which is a combination of BJD-BJP, cannot take strong action against the majority Hindus nor leave the minorities burning. With the erupting Hindu Terrorism in the state, government seemed to be helpless.
