On Wednesday, 13 August, Ahmadabad witnessed heavy and continuous rains. This devastating rain has killed 8 lives and made around 6000 people homeless, who were residing in low lying areas. The people living in these areas have been shifted to safer locations.

Railway service has been worst affected by this continuous rain, hampering several railway lines particularly the Mumbia-Delhi and Mumbia-Ahmedabad routes. It was because the Vishwamitri river, overflowed as it passes through Vadodra. This river was also flowing over a railway bridge between Varnama and Makarpura areas in the outskirts, due to heavy rain the whole night. Railway tracts in several areas have been submerged in water and the water level is 2feets above the danger level.

The areas around the 24 dams have been given high alert and have been evacuated. The much controversial Sardar Saorvar Dam is also above the danger level. Several people living in Valsad, Navsari and Vadodara have been evacuated.

Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) has announced a low pressure created on Gujarat coast and has issued warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of the state for the next 24 hours.
