Once again after two years, a similar incident occurred with heavy rains drowning parts of Hyderabad. The boats were brought in to rescue people from the drowned areas of Hyderabad, during the heavy rains that claimed about 42 lives this week.
The tourism department put to service two boats, especially in Nadeem colony were people were trapped in high level waters.
Though the maximum capacity of Hussain Sagar lake is 515 feet, the water level rose to a panic level of 513 feet, thus forcing the authorities to let out water through the dam. Authorities have warned people living in the lower areas to move to higher level areas during such heavy down pour to avoid any harm. They also requested people to stay in their homes and not to go on roads unless its essential.
House collapses are evident in such heavy down pour. Nearly 10 people were killed due to the collapse of houses and dozens were injured. Around 5 deaths occured in the coastal regions of Andhra, with reports coming in from Medak, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Nalgonda and Karim Nagar.
The evacuation process started when low lying areas started to get filled with water. The Metteorological Department gave a heads up warning for the next two days of heavy rains. Chief minister alerted the rescue teams to stay on vigilance for any incident that may erupt due to these heavy rains.
Hyderabad recorded 13.6 cm rainfall, meteorological officials reported. These rains caused heavy losses to the public property in the state.
