I was crossing the check post junction in jubilee hills, Hyderabad. The signal was green for me, hence i assumed it was red for all other directions (which should be the case). But that wasn’t enough to stop an auto (“shared auto”) from jumping the red signal and coming straight at me. I dodged the auto and was just thanking god when another auto (shared again and jumping the red signal) appeared right in front. This one got my handle bars and the next moment i was down. By the time i recovered the auto was nearly out of sight, its passengers watching the spectacle with interest. No other passer-by stopped to help me up, or chase down the auto. In the end, feeling like a run over cockroach I continued on my way to office.
As it is, footpaths and cycling lanes are non existent in our cities. People who opt to walk or pedal to their destination have a hard time dodging traffic that cuts without warning into left lanes and at time over the footpath too. So i think its likely you too would witness such incidents. If you see similar incidents, i request you to please offer a healing hand to the pedestrian/cyclist and if possible, stop the offending vehicle. Trust me, it really bucks up the ego
, and the environment in the long term.
